VIA DOLOROSA FRIDAY PROCESSION
The Via Dolorosa Friday Procession is a tour of the Way of the Cross led by the Franciscans, who have been the Catholic custodians of Jerusalem’s holy places since the 13th century. The procession begins at 3:00 pm every Friday, departing from the Church of the Flagellation, near the Lions Gate, and following the Way of the Cross and stopping at each of the 14 Stations of the Cross before culminating at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It is a seminal event for many Christian Pilgrims, and they often carry a large wooden cross to further mimic the walk of Jesus of Nazareth to his crucifixion.
